Competitor Registration Info

USA Climbing Bouldering Youth Regional Championships registration is now open and will continue until 11:59 PM MST on Friday, November 30, 2018. On December 1st, USA Climbing will post a roster of currently registered competitors and reopen registration to allow all members an additional 24-hours to register at an additional $50 fee. USA Climbing will NOT accept any late or missed registration appeals if a competitor fails to register by the late registration deadline. 

Bouldering Youth Regional Championships are open only to USA Climbing Competitor Members who: 

  • hold a current USA Climbing Competitor Membership
  • have competed in a minimum of, and received credit for, two Local competitions as a USA Climbing Competitor Member or USA Climbing Introductory Member
  • ranked in the top twenty (20) in at least one USAC Youth Local competition, where any extra quota competitors (Word and/or Pan American Champions, competitors with a bye to Youth Regionals or non-U.S. citizen competitors) shall not be included in the top twenty (20)
  • met all registration requirements and/or deadlines
  • have a Bye to the event

  • This is an onsight competition.
  • Competitors must have a USAC membership to participate. If you do not have a membership, please visit the USA climbing site here for more information.
  • Parking will be unavailable in the Sender One LAX parking lot; this space is reserved for USAC Staff and Sender One birthday party customers. Please see our parking map below for parking locations.

Volunteer Information

Volunteering offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the climbing community, while also supporting your local youth competitors.

Preliminary meetings will be held Sunday, December 2 from 12 PM – 2 PM and Thursday, December 6 from 7 PM – 9 PM. Volunteers MUST attend at least one of these meetings. We will review rules and regulations, schedules, and volunteer duties.

Volunteer FAQ

What is the event?

It is USA Climbing’s Youth Bouldering Regional Competition. Kids from across Southern California come to compete. It is an on-sight competition which means that competitors will be isolated (in ISO) before they climb and then escorted to a sequence of bouldering problems, where they will earn points dependent on how far they get on the route during their time.

 

When is the event?

December 8th | 7:15 AM – 5:45 PM

December 9th | 7:15 AM – 2:30 PM

 

Do I need prior experience to volunteer?

No! We will have a mandatory volunteer meeting about a week before the event, and then a judging meeting on the day of, to go over how to facilitate the competition. Feel free to invite your friends and family! The more volunteers we have, the more smoothly the event will go. 🙂

 

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

In order to avoid conflicts of interest, we are requiring volunteers to be 18 years or older (since this is a youth competition). However, if you are under the age of 18 and are interested in volunteering, contact Lauren ([email protected]) for potential exceptions.

 

What would I be doing as a volunteer?

Specific assignments won’t be given until closer to the event day, but the different positions include:

  • ISO Monitors: Supervise the isolation area, call out the time to competitors, and help check climbers in
  • Floaters: Help swap judges, communicate between volunteers, and assist where necessary
  • Runners: Escort competitors to their climbs
  • Judges
  • Clean Up

 

When is the mandatory volunteer meeting?

We will have two meetings the week before the event, volunteers are required to attend at least one:

  • Sunday, December 2 | 12 PM – 2 PM
  • Thursday, December 6 | 7 PM – 9 PM

What should I wear to the event?

You should wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes, and whatever pants you’d like with your complimentary volunteer t-shirt!

Will the gym be open for other visitors outside of the competition?

Yes, we will continue to host visitors in our Sender City and main gym area.  Our Sender City visitors, however, will come into the building through a separate entrance to help organize foot traffic during the event.  Additionally, half of our rope climbing area and the upstairs bouldering area will be open for members and day pass users.

Where can we park?

Volunteers will have shared parking in our main parking lot with Sender City visitors.  All other competitors and visitors will park in street parking or nearby lots.  Please view the parking maps above for information on where to park.

 

How do I receive my Volunteer Perks?
  • T-Shirts will be limited as we had a lot of sign ups after we had placed the order
    • Those who registered before Nov. 19th will receive a shirt in the size requested. All other shirts will be on a first come, first serve basis.
    • If you do not receive a shirt this weekend, please email: [email protected]
  • Guest passes will be added to your Sender One Account the week following the event
  • Meal vouchers and coffee will be given on the day of your shift
  • Gift basket will be given to the first 100 “all-day” volunteers who registered
  • Included instruction classes will be announced the week following the competition
  • The 30% off one retail item discount will be added to your Sender One account in the week following the event
