Last Saturday was Sender One’s 2-year anniversary party and it was definitely a day to remember! With discounted classes and day passes, crate stacking, the dyno comp, and funky tunes in line with the event’s disco theme, there was never a dull moment.
The party started before you even walk into the gym, with the smell of tacos luring you over to postpone your climbing session. If you made it past the tacos, you were greeted by the ever-perky staff and given a special 2-Year Anniversary shirt (if you were lucky enough to arrive early). Solid Coffee setup shop in the rope area to keep the psyche high with heavenly cups of goodness. And in case that didn’t work, we had previews of the upcoming LAX gym rolling through TVs throughout the facility. But really, what’s a party without a celebrity appearance?! Elvis graced us with his presence and even tried his hand at crate stacking!
The dyno comp officially started at noon; and with this being Sender One’s first dyno comp ever, everyone was itching to get flying! Dan and Connor did an awesome job hosting the event and seemed to have a grand old time doing so.
Congrats to Sara Griffith, Alissa Chhor, and Tiffany Nguyen for taking the victory on the women's side, and Kyle Owen, Mitch Popp, and Alvin Kim for coming out on top for the men's division!
Oh crate stacking… it seems like it was just yesterday people were asking what it was or if people really did that. Yeah, they do… we did. And it was awesome. The crate stacking competition started at 3p, and had climbers filling in under the arch a good half hour before we could get the sign-in process going. Our Youth Team crushers, including Paige Coultrup, Nathan Withey, and Jessica Capalbo, set the curve early, with Wesley Smith topping it off at 15 crates!
The stacking finals were a battle royale, and concluding with Whitney Harper winning the 1st prize Petzl rope, and Truc Vo and Wesley Smith as runners up, claiming free pairs of Sanuk shoes. The prizes kept on coming with the top 12 stackers winning Sanuk hats!
It's been a great two years of sends, stoke, and ssaaattts! Thanks to all for coming out to our party. Here's to more psyche to come!
