Melissa is an alleged pie magician, Trader Joe’s enthusiast, beach bum, and expert in starting hobbies (and occasionally sticking to them). Her journey at Sender One started in 2017 when her sister taught her how to top rope at LAX. Legend has it, she wasn’t allowed to come down until she finished. As the Customer Experience Manager at Lakewood, Melissa ensures that her and her team are continuously creating unforgettable climbing experiences. Anyways, who wants to take a ceramics class with me?

Mac Macquilkan

the content

Mac started climbing in 2017, and quickly took to the challenge of connecting mind and body to solve problems. As the leader of the youth and adult instruction programs at Sender One Lakewood, Mac channels their passion for education, philosophy, and art into training athletes, coaches, instructors, and camp counselors. They also find solace in the beauty and challenge of the Black Mountain boulders and New Jack sport climbing. Beyond the crag, you'll find Mac slacklining, pondering the virtue of silliness, and cherishing moments with their two beloved pit bulls.

Devan started climbing in 2011 at a gym called Rock City in Anaheim, CA. He very quickly fell in love with the sport and once he finally took his headphones out at the gym, he realized that the community was what would steal his heart and keep him coming back. This, like many of us, was the start of a complete life take-over. In 2012 Devan began routesetting at his home gym. He began to become obsessed with this art form and the idea that he could create something that manipulates the way everyone moves on the wall. Soon, he would be falling asleep thinking about how he could "force" or "encourage" a certain move/body position. This became an addiction, just as much as climbing itself. Devan hasn't looked back since then and has been working at Sender One since 2017. If you can't tell by reading this, he loves talking about climbing and routesetting. So if you see him around the gym, don't hesitate to ask him any questions about your project or the in's and out's of this wacky sport.

Art Alvear Garcia

the content

Art dove headfirst into climbing in 2013, purchasing an annual membership during his second time climbing before working at that same gym only a month later. Since then, Art has integrated himself into the SoCal climbing community, helping to foster the same inclusive and welcoming environment that he felt immediately when exploring the sport. Art is extroverted and social, and can often be found forging new connections with any nearby climbers, at the gym and crag alike. Art loves bouldering, teaching people how to lead climb (though he's scared to lead fall himself), and he especially loves guiding people through their first outdoor climbing experience. He enjoys playing games, anime, cats, and generally having fun with people. If you see him, don't hesitate to say hello!
